Putting AI on Your Website: What an Owner Should Know First

Part 9 of the RemarkableTek series: AI for Your Business — Sub-series: AI on Your Website

If you run a service business, you have probably been pitched the idea of adding AI to your website — usually a chatbot that answers visitor questions and captures leads around the clock. It is a genuinely good idea. A website that responds instantly, after hours and during busy periods, captures opportunities that a phone line and a contact form quietly let slip away.

This sub-series is not here to talk you out of that. It is here to make sure that when you do it, it is done well — safely, securely, and without turning your website into something fragile that no one is quite managing. Adding AI to a website is not just a marketing decision. It is also an IT decision, and the IT side is the part most owners never get briefed on.

AI on your website is more than a chatbot

Chatbots and voicebots greet visitors, answer common questions, qualify prospects, and capture lead information. AI-assisted content tools help generate or optimize the text on your site. AI search visibility affects whether AI-powered search and assistants recommend you. And embedded AI features — booking, recommendations — now have AI built in. The marketing value is real; what this sub-series adds is the layer underneath: the questions an IT partner asks.

The questions a marketer’s pitch usually skips

  • When a visitor types information into that chatbot, where does that data actually go?
  • Does collecting customer information through an AI tool create a privacy or compliance obligation?
  • Will the tool slow down your website or make it less stable?
  • If the chatbot connects to your CRM, email, or scheduling system, what access has it been given, and is that access safe?
  • After launch, who is responsible for keeping it working, accurate, and secure?

None of these is a reason not to add AI to your website. Every one is a reason to add it deliberately. The rest of this sub-series takes them one at a time.

Why the IT lens matters here

Your website is not a brochure. For most service businesses it feeds your contact records, may touch your scheduling, and may sync to your CRM. A chatbot that captures a lead is, in practice, a new doorway into your business’s data — and it deserves the same care as any system that touches customer information. The marketing side asks “will this get us more leads?” The IT side asks “is this safe, stable, and properly owned?” A good project answers both.

How RemarkableTek fits

RemarkableTek does not replace a marketing or web specialist — adding AI to a website well is a team effort. What we do is make sure the IT and security side is handled: data flows understood, the tool vetted, your site kept stable, integrations safe, and someone owning it after launch. You have one conversation with us, and we coordinate the right specialists around a project that is sound from every angle.

What’s next

In Part 10, we start with the most important question: when a customer types their name, number, and problem into your website’s chatbot, where does that information actually go — and who can see it?
